I'd only said that hi...Thanks so much for this! I'd only said that his name "graced" the correction, but I see the sentence you mean about him that wasn't right and I deleted it. I'm particularly grateful you pointed this out, as it led me to hunt out who first worked on it. I've added her papers.

Thanks so much for your feedback on the description of statistical difference. Finding a way to describe it in plain language that's still right is tough - but your specific suggestions showed me a way to have a go at it that I'm really happy with. If you can see this comment, I'd be grateful for any further feedback on the new version.

Changed "test" to "measure" for FDR.

Thanks for taking the time to make this comment!Hilda Bastianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01418954331826160477noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6353097553819934624.post-7664213117014324492016-03-20T03:03:47.778-04:002016-03-20T03:03:47.778-04:00I agree with the spirit of the post, but there are...I agree with the spirit of the post, but there are a few incorrect statements. First of all, Bonferroni didn't invent the Bonferroni procedure, it's just named after him. Also, the p-value is not the probability of a difference being an anomaly, nor does it indicate 1 minus the probability of a similar result in "similar sets of data." Both of those probabilities are unknown. Rather, the p-value is the what the probability of seeing the observed difference would have been if the "real" difference in the population as a whole were zero. Additionally, the false discovery rate (FDR) is not a test, but rather a rate, as the name implies.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
